One of my favorite books that I read this year is The Magical Language of Others: A Memoir [The Magical Language of Others is a powerful and aching love story in letters, from mother to daughter. ...Her mother writes letters in Korean over the years seeking forgiveness and love―letters Eun Ji cannot fully understand until she finds them years later hidden in a box.
As Eun Ji translates the letters, she looks to history]
I also appreciated her story, The Liberators, but it's not focused on language and translation but rather "an elegantly wrought family saga of memory, trauma, and empathy, and a stunning testament to the consequences and fortunes of inheritance."
Another find I came across today: The 2024 Nobel Prize in literature has been awarded to Han Kang, a South Korean author, for her “intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.”
This sounds amazing! Looking forward to both the literary prompts and the book club! I’ve been wanting to read Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982 for a while now
It's so good and it will be even better reading it in community!
For sure! Adding it to my book shopping list now 😊

That's on my TBR list, too! I heard her do a reading from it and was blown away!
