To read O Chong-hui's works might be the only reason why I would encourage others to learn Korean! I think she is the only literary genius that post-war South Korea has produced.
Your musing on K-pop got me thinking. What does it mean to be Korean? Is there a certain essence that makes something Korean?
Ahh! I'm so excited to read more of her work and to learn more Korean so I can read her work in the OG! She is brilliant. I loved every word.
I don't know what it means to be Korean, but I imagine it's a vibe, like that je ne sais crois when I think about what it means to be American, or French or Irish or whatever. It's probably a little different for everyone, but there may be some things that overlap more than others.
